Top Tips During a Heatwave
A heatwave is on the way as the Met Office issue a Level 3 Heat Health Alert, with it potentially lasting till Tuesday the 11th August and temperatures ranging from 31-35°C.
What are the potential impacts?
The elderly and the seriously ill are the groups who are particularly at risk of health problems when the weather is very hot. In particular, very hot weather can make heart and breathing problems worse, so it is crucial to stay hydrated and as cool as possible.
Heatwave and COVID-19
A heatwave is on the way and it is important to be safe whether you are at home or having to work and additionally to this safety also still needs to be maintained following the Government guidelines of COVID-19.
These top tips should help you to stay cool and be safe during this heatwave.
- Remember fans are ineffective in temperatures above 35degrees and can cause increased dehydration.
- Instead, if you are inside you should definitely keep your windows and shades shut during the hottest part of the day, according to the NHS. And if you have to go outside try and not be out for the hottest part of the day and always stay cool, by being in the shade.
- Dampen sponges or cloths with cold water to help control your temperature.
- Keep yourself and clients cool and hydrated, whilst always monitoring hydration levels.
- And always monitor high-risk clients closely.
