Here in Worthing, West Sussex, we move from a level 3 heat health alert to new warnings of thunderstorms. After a prolonged heatwave of temperatures at 32°C, the Met Office has now forecast this to trigger thunderstorms over the next 6 days across much of the UK until Monday 17th August, with a risk of heavy rain, flash flooding, lightning and hail.
Seniors are at Greater Risk During Thunderstorms
While we long for the warmth of summer days, heat and humidity can also give way to severe thunderstorms and lightning which is a high risk. The safety of our beloved seniors is of the greatest importance to us and making sure our elderly loved ones have what they need in case of emergencies is a definite priority.
Keep in Touch with Elderly People
We must stay in regular contact with elderly relatives when the temperatures are either rising or dropping. With the weather change it can bring on symptoms such as a lack of eating, headaches or flu-like symptoms which may be an indication your relative needs support and whilst you may be able to keep in contact by phone, you may live some distance away to be able to provide hands-on help. Our team of friendly, professional CareAngels can assist you at times convenient from 7 am to 10 pm, 7 days a week, for a minimum of 30 minutes. We can visit as little as once a week, through to several times a day and we provide care 365 days a year.

Stay Safe and Check the Weather
During this time of uncertain weather, it is important to be safe whether you are at home or having to work, as thunderstorms could bring sudden surface water and river flooding to parts of England, which may lead to flooded properties and severe travel disruption in some areas.
