CareAngel Sophie was recently shortlisted at Guardian Angel Carers’ national awards, having been nominated by Jackie on behalf of her parents June and Mike, who Sophie cares for.
“Sophie is truly exceptional,” said Jackie, “both caring and professional – she has a natural ability to connect with people, anticipating their needs and offering support in ways that truly make a difference.”
“My parents absolutely adore her and always look forward to her visits, which bring such joy and comfort to their daily lives. She understands their needs and challenges better than anyone and has gone above and beyond on multiple occasions, handling everything with remarkable calm, confidence, and clarity.”
“Sophie’s ability to act quickly and thoughtfully in difficult situations has been a huge reassurance to our whole family,” says Jackie. “She doesn’t just provide practical support – she offers genuine companionship, compassion, and understanding.
“Her dedication has given me peace of mind, knowing that my parents are not only safe but genuinely happy and cared for. Sophie is more than a carer, she is a trusted friend, a steady presence, and an extraordinary support to our family, and for that, she deserves to be recognised.”
When asked what it means to her to be a CareAngel, Sophie responded, “I love it. I love everything about the world. It is just so rewarding. I’ve always felt more compelled to spend time with elderly people, even when I was younger. I grew up with my nanna living with us. I spent time with my elderly neighbours and I found that I was helping more and more, and then when it got to a point where my youngest daughter was in full time education, I thought, well, what can I do now? So I applied to Guardian Angel Carers.”
“My wish for Christmas is that no one is on their own,” says Sophie. “That’s why, at the moment, I’m asking all my clients, ‘what are you doing for Christmas? Have you got family coming?”
“I’ll be working in the evening on Christmas Day. Last year I worked Boxing Day and then I did some night shifts and I took cheesecake and things like that.”
Celebrating Family. Recognising Carers.
“I’m so proud of Sophie who has proven that she truly deserves the title of ‘CareAngel’,” says Vikki Craig-Vickers, managing director of Guardian Angel Carers.
“Christmas is a time to celebrate family, but for us, it’s also a time to ensure that our incredible CareAngels are recognised too.”
“As we approach the festive season, it’s also important to remember that January is a time when caring businesses such as us receive more enquiries than any other time of year. In spending more time together, family members often notice or realise that time has taken its toll and elderly relatives have become more vulnerable, more frail.”
Natasha Smith, Branch Manager of Guardian Angel Carers Fareham says: “We know that the vast majority of people in the UK would prefer to remain in their own home as they grow older. So we work closely with you and your loved ones to create personalised care plans that give clients as much independence as possible.”
Guardian Angel Carers provide home care, live-in, specialist and overnight care across the UK.
